Tuna Salad sandwiches make up almost all of the total fat intake for one day according to a study from the Australia Nutrition Foundation.

The turkey with mustard sandwich was found to be the healthiest with the least fat compared to all other sandwiches studied.

The Foundation’s chief nutritionist, Jane Smith said many shops were giving a “dinner’s worth of fat and calories.”

“Tuna is fat-free, but in a tuna salad sandwich, it is drowning in about one-third of a cup of mayonnaise,” she said.

Ms Smith said a Tuna salad sandwich is the equivalent of “three McDonald’s Quarter Pounders, fat-wise.”

The Foundation recommended 65 grams total fat, 20 grams saturated fat and 2400 milligrams of sodium daily.

The tuna salad sandwich had 43 grams of total fat with the vegetarian sandwich in second place with 40 grams.
